Ultimate Street Car featuring Euro Sports Compact

On Sunday 3rd August 2008 Ultimate Street Car will host the second event in the Euro Sports Compact series at Santa Pod.

bbCode image

The Euro Sports Compact is for contemporary European cars with European bodies and same manufacturer engines, from 4 to 6 cylinders, with open tyre choice.

The first Euro Sports Compact shootout took place at the Performance, Tuning & Modified Show on 11th May 2008 at Santa Pod Raceway, read a full race report on the PTM Show site.

With our very own James Hodson winning the first Euro Sports Compact event earlier this year he's in an ideal position to consolidate his position leading the Euro Sports Compact championship! Another VW Pro regular, Paul Jordan is also in attendance in his 4WD Scirocco trying to make sure James doesn't have it all his own way!

bbCode image

Andy Nichols looks set to return in the mental MG, but there's plenty of other VW's to support, in addition to the two VWDRC entries you'll also see a host of GTi Festival regulars; Grant Parker's mental 4x4 Audi powered Mk1 Golf, Andy Waite's 20v Turbo Mk1 Golf, and Mark Gunns' lovely 10 second 4x4 Corrado!

TV show 5th Gear are sure it's gonna be exciting and are covering the event! So if you enjoyed Bug Jam and like to party USC will be right up your street, if you wanna see some of the quickest European cars in the country then show a bit of support for the VW badge (and especially James and Paul from the VWDRC!) and get over there!!

Bug Jam 22 Results

Well we're back from an absolutely mental weekend at Bug Jam 22, absolutely awesome racing this weekend and the top 8 in Sportsman qualifying were separated by only 0.1 seconds!

Here's the racing results anyway, well done guys!

Winner: James Hodson

Runner Up: Phil Norman

VW Pro

James Hodson took victory in his mentalist Mk2 Golf, driving it to the track, running dead on his 10.60 dial-in all weekend, collecting his trophy and driving it home!

A special mention must go to runner up Phil Norman who had terrible problems leading up to the event which culminated in a hasty gearbox rebuild in the pits on Friday night into Saturday morning!

Winner: Stuart Hinds

Runner Up: Rich 'Steve' Merriman

VW Sportsman

Stuart 'Tick Tock' Hinds proved that after some time off with his family he's well and truly back in VW Sportsman with a masterful display in his Corrado!

Rich Merriman couldn't quite get his Beetle finished for Pro so borrowed his girlfriend Claire's Polo for Sportsman, and boy is he glad he did taking second place in his first event for a while. We're looking forward to seeing the Bug Rich, but with performances like that maybe sticking the Polo is a good idea!?

Winner: Scott Evison

Runner Up: Matt Attwood

VW Alternate Engine

It was close in Alternate Engine too, with excellent performances from Ian Huggan, after a small mishap with a massive wheelstand pulling the oil filter clean from the block he still managed to fix it and get back on the track!

Eventually it was Scott Evison's Subaru powered car that won out over Matt Attwoods skyward airplane fastback.

Abi Tether

Car of the Meeting – Sponsored by RNJ Motorsport

Voted By the Racers and with so many cool people in the club this is always a hotly contested prize, with a number of especially cool things going on at Bug Jam this weekend was especially close! When all the votes were in and counted up the eventual winner was Abi Tether in the Sambasaurus, well done on the 16!

Congratulations to all the racers in all the classes. What a fab weekend!

Bug Jam This Weekend!

bbCode image

Yes! That time is upon us. This weekend sees the highlight of the VWDRC's season, Bug Jam 22!

It's a massive weekend with 40 cars entered in the VW classes and support from a number of special guest, Street Eliminator, Junior Dragster, Super Modified and Sportsman ET.

There's a load of people to look out for, Justin Rivett's Herbielizer has been looking strong with some lovely looking wheelies in testing. Pauly Herbert returns to VW Pro now he's out of plaster. James Hodson has been on fire recently looking for more 10's from his street driven VW Golf! Jason Aldred is gunning for a European record in his Buggy.

Darryn Coleman returns to the track in his 485bhp (with 550ft.lb of Torque!) Subaru powered Beetle which will look awesome next to Andy Raw's V8 powered Beetle funny car. Alongside regulars like Mark Skeen, in his nitrous assisted Bay Window, Ian Huggan, complete with even more trick STi bits and Matt Attwood with his supercharger VW Alternate Engine has a few debutants too, specially good luck to everyone taking to the track for the first time.

A bumper entry of 19 in VW Sportsman sees championship contenders Spencer Tramm, Craig Allen and Russ Weir battle it out. With returns from Luke 'Major Lucky' Stevenson and Stuart 'Tick Tock' Hinds it's sure to be close! Keep your eyes on Abi Tether and Mark Malone in their Samba and Type-25 respectively for some biiiig burnout action!

All in all it's going to be a great weekend, there's always tickets on the gate so get yourself down to Santa Pod for the weekend and come join the fun!!

Summer Nationals This Weekend!

Sorry for the late notice but it's that time again! This weekend sees the VWDRC take to the track at the SPRC Summer Nationals at Santa Pod.

There's a whole range of classes on offer this weekend including all 3 of the VW classes, Pro Modified, Top Fuel, and a whole load more!

There's a number of people returning from absence this weekend. Abi Tether is back from a break in her 21 window Samba in VW Sportsman, Steve Parfitt returns to the track in his 'Quarter Pounder' car in VW Pro and Matt Attwood's got the super charger setup back on the Fasty in VW Alternate Engine. Add to that James Hodson's attempt to win back the European Front Wheel Drive record in his Golf and more action from Andy Raw's V8 Beetle funny car and it's a weekend not to miss!

In short, get yourself down to Santa Pod this weekend! Don't miss it.

Springspeed 08

Yes, just days after Big Bang the VWDRC is out racing again!

This weekend sees Shakespeare County Raceway's Springspeed 2008 event, at Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford-upon-Avon.

Sadly due to the damage suffered by many of our cars last weekend we're a slightly depleted field this weekend but we still think it's gonna be a good one!

Come join us this weekend (3rd, 4th and 5th May 2008) at Shakespeare County Raceway near Stratford-upon-Avon for a great bank holiday weekend of racing.

Big Bang 2008 Results

A huge thanks from all of us here at the VWDRC to Santa Pod and Brian Burrows for making Big Bang 2008 such a great weekend.

Things started well with great weather for the Run What Ya Brung and after a great day the MSA approving an evening qualifying session on Saturday evening. What a session it was! We ended Saturday's evening session with Donald Harvey, Chris Bray and Spencer Tramm sitting at number one in VW Pro, VW Sportsman and VW Alternate Engine respectively.

As Sunday morning dawned we saw something we hadn't seen for such a long time at Santa Pod, a dry track!

The action was underway immediately and after a couple of unfortunate oil downs early on we were soon into the swing of things! We had a number of excellent runs during the morning qualifying, Russ Fellows started turning up the wick in his silver Beetle managing a personal best down into the 9.80's, we also saw James Hodson run 10.65 in his Golf to take number one in VW Pro, Chris and Spencer kept the top spot in VW Sportsman and VW Alternate Engine. Unbelievably the top five in VW Sportsman were ALL less that 0.01 seconds from their dial-in!

Eliminations were as exciting as ever, unfortunately after a number of breakages during qualifying there was a larger than usual number of bye runs but we still saw some absolutely stunning runs! James Hodsons's new Personal best of 10.61 was of particular note, it's a little while since James lost his "Quickest Front Wheel Drive in Europe" crown, but with performances like this it's sure not gonna be long before he wins it back!!

A special mention has to go to Paul Herbert and team Fantom, running his gray roofchopped Beetle in Pro for the first time Paul managed to run down into the 12.80's with just a 1679cc engine! Awesome work I'm sure everyone will agree.

The finals were as close as ever and after a short wait we saw Paul and James take to the track, watching from the finish line it was close but Paul's Beetle that took the stripe and the win in his first meeting in VW Pro.

VW Sportsman was just as close as Easter Thunderball finalist Russ Weir faced up to Paul Day in his new yellow Beetle. Once again it was a close run and Russ had to settle for second in his second meeting too as Paul took the victory.

VW Alternate Engine wasn't quite so close as Mark Skeen had problems with his nitrous system and Spencer caught up with him mid-track and took the victory with relative ease although it wasn't all good for Spencer since he got knocked out by his protege Adrian Wigley in the first round of VW Sportsman!!

The only other trophy to be decided this weekend was the RNJ Motorsport "Car of the Meeting" award, as voted by the racers at the event. This was presented to Russ Fellows, who decided to celebrate the award by taking the car out for a practice run, only to break it in the burn out!! We hope it's nothing serious and that you manage to fix it relatively easily Russ!

All in all a fantastic weekends racing was had by all, here's hoping it's the first of many this year!
