Sadly we got heavy rain overnight at Shakespeare County Raceway meaning we couldn't get underway first thing this morning.

A quick drivers meeting to explain that entry fees for the August meeting will be raised by £10 in order to raise money for the hire of a track drier the efforts the crew were putting in seemed to be paying off as the track looked to be drying and there were actually a few pairs run in other classes.

Sadly however, it was not to be as the rain started again early afternoon and the meeting was officially called off later in the afternoon before the VWDRC took to the track.

Points will be done as soon as I've got the full figures from qualifying.

Congratulations to Paul Braithwaite for reaching the final in his very first event in VW Alternate Engine, sadly he was pipped at the line by Laurie Craig's V8 funny car! Well done to the whole Cool Runnings team! Hope to see more of the same next time out!

The ever present Paul Herbert (deserving a special mention for his PERFECT ET to take number one qualifier!) met a different Graeme in the VW Sportsman final, nuber two qualifier Graeme Freeman lined up next to him in his "Schwarze Schonheit" beetle and true to form it was yet another close run affair! Pauly was 0.1 sec up on the light but Graeme chased him down and took the win by 0.03 seconds! Winning VW Sportsman at Big Bang on the same day your team are promoted to the Premiership, good work Graeme!

Glynn Morgan took on Scotsman Peter Christie in the VW Pro final. Glynn took the light and it showed at the line with the win light in Glynn's lane! Another tense run!

There were a lot of breakages this weekend and it seems as if club sponsor Paul at Bears Motorsport Transmissions is going to be busy again!

What can I say! Wow! What a weekend! Awesome weather, awesome people, awesome atmosphere and some truly amazing racing!

We saw some of the closest qualifying for years with just thousandths separating the top three in VW Sportsman and the number one spot in VW Pro changing it seemed like every session!

Beanie by Gwynn

Carnage in VW Alternate Engine saw Matt Attwood break his V8 engined Type Three, repair it, only to break it again just two runs later! It looks like Matt will have to invest in a stronger gearbox to handle the extra traction from his new slicks, not to mention the power from his new supercharger!! Sadly the same will be true for Stretch as the newly laid startline took it's toll on the gearbox in Beetelgeuse, on the first run! Sounds like Paul at club sponsor Bears Motorsport Transmissions is going to be busy!

The racing was as close as ever with Chris Bray beating Jacob Bailey by just 0.002 of a second to take top front wheel drive and top watercooled spot, only to lose to his nemesis Paul Herbert in the Fantom Beetle by just 0.06 seconds in the next round!

Bude's Deetle by Gwynn

Matt's demise in Alternate Engine meant it was effectively settled in the semi with Beanie beating Huggy to get the bye in the final.

VW Pro was similar with Dude and Glynn both getting Bye's in the first round after Stretch's breakage.

VW Pro was oh so close with Dude just pipping Glynn to the top spot as Glynn broke out by the tinyest margin of less than 0.1 second!

VW Alternate Engine went predictably with Beanie taking his bye run by the balls and running a personal best 13.36 in his bay window panel van!

Fair play mate, what a way to run a Bye!

Pauly's "Fantom" by Gwynn

As Paul lined up against Graham in the final the scene was set for a tense ending to a great weekend, and they didn't disappoint as Graham looked to have it at the top end but it wasn't to be as Paul took the win on another TINY breakout of 0.02 seconds!
